The Executive Director of UNITAR, Carlos Lopes, has been invited to join the International Scientific Advisory Board of the Cooperation Department (ISAB-COOP) at EPFL. As an independent and multidisciplinary group of experts with international reputation in science, technology and development cooperation, the ISAB-COOP is contributing to advancing EPFL’s research, education, training and scientific activities in global development issues, and to devising a long-term strategy for EPFL’s scientific cooperation policy. The invitation to join this esteemed board is a new step toward strengthening cooperation between both Institutions.

The Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (EPFL) and the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) are currently defining new orientations for their cooperation that would support continuous adult learning in emerging and developing countries as well as academic education and research that strongly integrates the vision of the South.
The collaboration initiated in 2005 with the participation of EPFL professors in UNITAR activities, was formalized in 2008 with the aim of enhancing educational and research activities for both institutions.
