UNITAR and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Algeria Strengthen Their Cooperation With a Leadership Seminar
25 - 27 September 2016, Algiers, Algeria – Following a series of events that have been jointly organized between UNITAR and the Institut Diplomatique et des Relations Internationales (IDRI) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Algeria, UNITAR’s Multilateral Diplomacy Programme held a three-day leadership seminar for 17 Algerian diplomats and officials. The long-standing and fruitful collaboration with IDRI has reinforced the individual and institutional capacities of officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, particularly in the domain of multilateral diplomacy.
In 2016, UNITAR held two activities as part of their collaboration with Algeria, the second taking place in September. This activity was a 3-day seminar, which focused on the different aspects of leadership, highlighting the impact of a good and charismatic leader on their colleagues. In this seminar, participants familiarized with the different leadership styles that will allow them to have positive changes in order to enhance their leadership performance. Each of the topics covered was reinforced with case studies and simulation exercises to allow participants to put in practice the concepts learnt based on real-life situations.
During these three days, Algerian officials and diplomats were also able to participate in exercises that allowed them to self-assess their leadership style, as well as put into practice the new techniques introduced by UNITAR’s international and senior expert Mr. Jerome Lhost.
By the end of the seminar, all participants were satisfied with the outcomes of the workshop and 93% of them expressed the likelihood to use the information in their future activities and will recommend this seminar to their colleagues.
