UNITAR signed a Letter of Intent with the George Washington University Law School

In December 2011 UNITAR signed a Letter of Intent with the George Washington Law School (GW Law School) agreeing to work together in the field of international law.

The overarching objective of this document is to provide a framework for cooperation whereby both institutions can enter into a collaborative relationship. Through this, they can optimize their respective strengths to jointly develop and deploy modern learning and training environments and methodologies. In particular, UNITAR and GW Law School seek to develop training courses and encourage academic exchange and collaboration to promote international environmental law.

the George Washington UniversityEstablished in 1865, GW Law School is the oldest law school in the District of Columbia. The school is accredited by the American Bar Association and is a charter member of the Association of American Law Schools. It enrolls highly qualified students from approximately 45 countries each year in its Master of Laws and Doctor of Juridical Science degree programs. GW Law School has of extensive expertise in the field of international environmental law. GW Law’s Environmental Law Program is one of the oldest in the United States, having recently celebrated its 40th anniversary.

Within the framework of cooperation, GW Law School supports UNITAR with the evaluation of course assignments for UNITAR’s Diploma Course in International Environmental Law and the development of new e-learning courses in this field. In addition, the agreement lays the foundations for expanded cooperation including joint development and implementation of curricula and learning materials in areas of common interest, as well as the pooling and exchange of knowledge, resources and expertise.
