UNITAR signs a Memorandum of Understanding with the Open University of Catalunya
The Executive Director of UNITAR, Mr Carlos Lopes, and the President of the Open University of Catalunya, Dr Imma Tubella i Casedevall, signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the two institutions. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is the formal agreement between the two institutions following discussions that started sometime ago.
The Open University of Catalunya (UOC) is an internationally-renowned online university, which offers student-centred learning with the benefits of personalized studies, flexibility, accessibility and collaboration. The UOC is a leader and innovator in education and technology, and is a benchmark for quality in its academic work and research in e-learning based on Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). UNITAR delivers innovative training with over 26,000 beneficiaries in 2011, having close to a decade of experience on e-Learning and technology-enhanced learning activities. It started by offering a number of courses in the field of public finance and trade. As demand increased, it expanded its online catalogue adding courses on peacekeeping among others. Technology-enhanced activities continue to grow at UNITAR, expanding language coverage and additional subject areas such as peacekeeping, ITC skills, sustainable urbanization, and knowledge management.
Following signature of the MoU between the two institutions, it is proposed that the first joint activities to be undertaken under the new cooperation will be the launching of a joint Masters degree in “conflictology” in collaboration with Peacekeeping Programme that will be followed by joint activities in international law.
