This map illustrates satellite-detected flood waters as of 20 March 2008 over the affected areas of southern Angola. Detected flood waters are shown in red. Flood analysis was made using Radarsat data recorded 20 March 2008 at a spatial resolution of 25 meters. Note: the flood water extent shown in this map is significantly greater than the extent shown in the previous flood detection map (version 1.0) published 20 March 2008. This difference thus does not indicate an absolute increase in water levels but is due to differences in the spatial and spectral resolution of satellite sensors. This flood detection is a preliminary analysis & has not yet been validated in the field. Map scale for A3: 1:360,000; Projection : UTM Zone 33 South; Datum : WGS 1984. | |
