This overview map presents a satellite-based damage assessment for the port city of Poti, Georgia following the armed conflict between Georgian and Russian military forces in August 2008. Damaged vessels have been identified with QuickBird satellite imagery acquired on 25 August 2008 at a spatial resolution of 60cm. A total of 6 Georgian naval vessels within the mapped extent of Poti have been identified as either partially or completely submerged in the Gavan Novyy section of the port. No other damage to physical infrastructure or vessel-related oil spills were detected. Please note, this is an initial damage assessment and damage sites have not been independently verified on the ground. Please send additions/corrections to UNOSAT.
