This poster illustrates the background, methodology and results of remotely sensed (aerial photographs and satellite imagery based) damage assessments of buildings in the earthquake affected area in Haiti. The Haiti building damage atlas was produced by the United Nations' Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) Operational Satellite Applications Programme (UNOSAT), the European Commission's Joint Research Centre (JRC), and the World Bank in support to the Post Disaster Needs Assessment (PDNA) process led by the Government of Haiti. | |
| Swisstopo and the Remote Sensing Laboratories (RSL) at the University of Zurich provided extensive pre-crisis building data in direct technical support of UNITAR/UNOSAT.
The World Bank has worked with a network of volunteer collaborators, GEO CAN (Global Earth Observation - Catastrophe Assessment Network), and with ImageCat, Inc. to produce its damage assessment. EC JRC's work is supported by the Stability Instrument. Initial reference data were received from collaborative centers including Sertit/Space Charter and other supporting entities (ITHACA, DLR, OSM).
