This analysis shows the settlement of El Faid in South Kordofan state of Sudan before and after a reported attack occurring on 13 April 2011. Two very high resolution satellite images spanning 30 December 2010 to 16 April 2011 were acquired and analyzed for evidence of arson. Analysis indicates that 356 structures were burned in the reported attack, although the largest part of the settlement remained intact. Additionally, the MODIS sensor on board the NASA Terra satellite detected three areas of fire along the southern edge of El Faid on 13 April 2011 at 0815 UTC (1015 local time), coincident with the reported attacks.
