This report provides an overview of the situation in the town of Douma in Damascus, Syria as of 29 August 2015, using high resolution imagery collected by the Pleiades satellite and compared with satellite imagery collected 28 December 2014. In support of the implementation of UN Security Council resolutions 2139 (2014) and 2165 (2014), UNOSAT reviewed the town for indicators of damage and signs of ongoing fighting and displaced civilians. UNOSAT analysis indicates ongoing fighting in the city of Douma as numerous severely damaged buildings are visible in the city center close to the Great Mosque of Douma and the Al Katifani Market. Several destroyed buildings located in the city center showed damages similar to those observed from air strikes or barrel bombing. As of 29 August traffic is completely absent in the city y center and numerous roadblocks are visible in the main roads. This is a preliminary analysis and has not yet been validated in the field. Please send ground feedback to UNITAR-UNOSAT.
