This map illustrates satellite-detected building damage assessment as of 21 February 2018, over the towns of Fatumu, Haveluliku, Pelehake and surroundings in Tongatapu Island, Tonga, following the passage of the tropical cyclone GITA-18. The analysis was conducted using a post-event Pleiades image as of 21 February 2018 and a pre-event WorldView-3 image as of 12 January 2018. UNITAR-UNOSAT analysis identified 133 potentially damaged structures within the area. According to the pre-event building footprints provided by Open Street Map, this represents 27% of the total number of buildings analyzed. Overall, the satellite detected damage level was minor, in this part of the island. This is a preliminary analysis and has not yet been validated in the field.
