The current projects of UNOSAT comprise:
- Mapping: UNOSAT is home to an advanced centre of excellence for satellite imagery and data analysis operating since 2001. The UNOSAT mapping team continues the tradition of high quality map and geospatial data production for UNOSAT ongoing since 2003. In accordance with UNITAR strategic objectives, UMG provides geospatial support to the UN system and other organizations in the areas of disaster response, humanitarian operations, human security and the application of international humanitarian law, and human rights.
UNOSAT Training Solutions: UNOSAT has more than a decade of experience in the development and delivery of knowledge sharing and training activities and over the theses years has accumulated a remarkable practical experience of training design and delivery on the use of Geospatial Information Technology (GIT) within different application domains which inlcude disasters risk management, water management and territorial planning.
Crowdsourcing: UNOSAT has long utilized a variety of crowd-sourced data to support its imagery analysis and mapping activities. Already in 2006, UNOSAT, CERN and the University of Geneva joined hands to explore the potential of participatory mapping using CERN’s experiences on collaborative computing and collaborative thinking in particle physics. In July 2006 UNOSAT's first crowdsourcing experiment went public with the name of Africa@Home. Building on these efforts the three partners were joined by the University of California, Berkeley and other partners to create the Citizen Cyberscience Centre (CCC).
The ResEau Project: The issue of water scarcity is crucial in Chad. Agriculture and pastoralism concern 73% of the country´s population, make up 85% of revenue and are very much dependent on rainfalls. Establishing an active, durable and sovereign water resources management system is essential if Chad is to reach its development goals; and this is contingent upon transferring knowledge and building national capacity in this area. Better knowledge of water resources will also enhance the impact of development projects that are tied to good water management practices (healthcare, food security,…), thanks in part to more efficient planning for hydraulics projects and drilling campaigns. This knowledge is a foundation upon which to design development policies and support territorial planning.
REACH Project: The REACH Consortium comprises ACTED, IMPACT Initiatives and UNOSAT. REACH brings together and builds upon the complementary expertise and capacities of the three consortium partners at the global and country levels.
