12 May 2022, New York, Geneva, Vienna (USA, Switzerland, Austria).- The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) and the International Ombudsman Institute (IOI) announce a partnership signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly work on training, research, and capacity development activities to empower the promotion and protection of human rights among other important topics.

The virtual joint signature event was attended by the United Nations Assistant Secretary-General and Executive Director of UNITAR Mr. Nikhil Seth, the President of the International Ombudsman Institute (IOI) Mr. Chris Field, and the Head of the UNITAR New York Office Mr. Marco Suazo.

The UNITAR-IOI cooperation seeks to increase its presence worldwide and create significant influence on youth professionals and interested experts on good governance, sustainable development goals, Agenda 2030. In addition, this cooperation will influence on information campaigns among both Institutions to formalize them with the UN, its role, work, and mechanisms.  For both principals, this virtual joint signature event was significant due to the role the UNITAR and IOI play in creating strategic plans and activities as key elements to curbing corruption and achieving sustainable development and human well-being.
