Over the last century, the face of warfare has significantly changed. Interstate wars are now relatively rate and conflicts have become more complex, often involving an internal and a regional/international dimensions. In this type of conflicts, the battlefield is not clearly delimitated and civilians are often caught up in the hostilities as victims or participants – a distinction that is sometimes hard to draw.

12 September 2011 – UNITAR has initiated training workshops for Capacity Building on the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS) in four ASEAN countries (Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, and Thailand) and the People’s Republic of China. The training is part of the project “Strengthening National and Regional Capacities to Implement the GHS in ASEAN – Phase II”, funded by the European Union.
