More than 15 analytical maps and reports have been produced by the UNOSAT team of satellite analysts in support to various UN humanitarian agencies and the UN Humanitarian Air Service since March. As the situation deteriorated due to the intensifying military activities in and around various cities on the coast, larger numbers of civilians found themselves trapped in conflict areas sometimes subject to heavy shelling, with slim chances to be reached by humanitarian relief or evacuated to safer areas.

The UNITAR Peacekeeping Training Programme (PTP), in partnership with the International Security Sector Advisory Team (ISSAT), is happy to announce the launch of the first ever e-learning course on security sector reform. This much awaited course combines the experience and knowledge of ISSAT and the interactive and online educational expertise of UNITAR. The course has been developed from ISSAT’s Level 1 Basic course on SSR, and is recognized by both organizations with UNITAR/ISSAT certification.
 

30 March - 2 April 2011, Jeju, Republic of Korea. CIFAL Jeju convened over ten country delegations in Jeju Self-Governing Province, for its first training of a series to build local government capacities on priority Human Security issues in the Asia-Pacific Region. Part of UNITAR's global network of nine CIFAL training centres for local development, CIFAL Jeju's mandate is to develop knowledge and skills among regional local governments on this theme.

DIHAD is the largest event in the Arab region focusing on humanitarian efforts. The conference eight edition held in Dubai at the end of March 2011 focused on new technology for humanitarian aid and development.

The project is part of an ongoing profile of projects that UNITAR coordinates for capacity building in the Niger Delta region linked to resources, conflict mitigation, and economic development via the Port Harcourt Project Office (PHPO).
