30 March 2023, Hiroshima, Japan – The free online microlearning course “Defending Human Rights in the Age of Artificial Intelligence” has been translated into an additional 20 languages, expanding access to communities across the globe. The translation project was launched through a partnership among UNITAR, UNESCO and SALTO Participation & Information Resource Centre (SALTO PI).

28 March 2023, Hiroshima, Japan – Ahead of the 2023 G7 Summit in May, the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) will host a youth panel “Hiroshima G7: Voice of the Youth – Hiroshima for Global Peace Agenda”. Seven youths living in Hiroshima, one from each G7 country, will share their experiences in the city and discuss Hiroshima’s role in promoting global peace. This event will be co-organized with UNITAR Association.

25 April 2023, Hiroshima, Japan - Olga Devic is a translator who is passionate about the intersection of artificial intelligence (AI) and human rights. She joined a team of young women to translate a course on AI and human rights into Serbian. The course “Defending Human Rights in the Age of Artificial Intelligence“ was created by UNITAR and UNESCO in English with original translations in French, Spanish, Russian, and Chinese. Recently, with the support of the SALTO Participation & Information Resource Centre (SALTO PI), youth translators have volunteered on bringing the course into 20 additional languages.

When he heard about the opportunity to translate the course “Defending Human Rights in the Age of Artificial Intelligence” from a friend, he jumped at the chance to get involved. The course was created by UNITAR and UNESCO, while SALTO Participation & Information Resource Centre (SALTO PI) took the lead in coordinating translation efforts.

27 February 2023, Hiroshima, Japan – Eighteen participants from nine countries will participate in the second phase of UNITAR Hiroshima Women’s Leadership in Tsunami-based Disaster Risk Reduction Training Programme for World Tsunami Awareness Day. The training will be held in person in Samoa from 7–11 March 2023. This is the first time UNITAR Division for Prosperity will hold workshops in Samoa and is also the first time in two years that the DRR Programme will have in-person learning.

27 February 2023, Geneva, Switzerland - The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) and the Regional Office for the Near East and North Africa of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) have launched a Call for Applications for their joint online course on Trade and Food Security which will take place from May 28 to June 22, 2023. The course will be facilitated by experts and delivered fully in Arabic language in an asynchronous manner.

27 February 2023, Hiroshima, Japan – Professor Akiko Yuge, a member of the UNITAR Board of Trustees, visited the UNITAR Division for Prosperity, Hiroshima Office to observe the in-person nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation training of 18 government officials from Asian foreign affairs and defence authorities.
