Side Event: Global Partnerships for “Transforming our World”

The scale and ambition of the 2030 Development Agenda requires Global Partnerships; bringing together Governments, private sector businesses, civil society, the UN system and other actors mobilising all resources. It will work in a spirit of global solidarity, ensuring the respect for fundamental human rights and the dignity of all human kind. This New York Office side event brought together the private sector, civil society, NGOs and UN agencies to present and discuss their respective visions for promoting and helping to implement the 2030 Development Agenda.

Building and Promoting Trust for Peaceful and Inclusive Societies

On 22 September 2015, UNITAR New York Office (NYO) in collaboration with Yale University, Yale Divinity School, organised a side event on Building and Promoting Trust for Peaceful and Inclusive Societies; a social cohesion and inclusive societies initiative. In the energised environment of the General Assembly, the Papal Visit, the launch of the 2030 Agenda, and the US Leadership Summit to Counter ISIL and Violent Extremism, this event was considered by the many diplomats attending to be most timely and relevent.

For almost two hours, scholars, practitioners and diplomats were engaged in spririted presentations and thought-provoking dialogue on the complexities of building trust, its crucial role in developing relations and building peace, and as a critical strategy for addressing extremism and for fostering peaceful and inclusive societies.
