12 December 2013, Accra, Ghana - During the week of 9 December 2013, the “GEF/UNITAR/UNDP/EPA-Ghana Project on Capacity Building for the Elimination of PCBs in Ghana” entered its final key phase.  In particular, the 10th session of the Project Steering Committee (PSC) convened on 12 December 2013 and adopted a number of key decisions:

17 December 2013, Geneva, Switzerland - As the situation worsens in the Central African Republic, humanitarian organizations are facing a new wave of 214,000 internally displaced persons that will bring the total IDP population to nearly 700,000 according to UN estimates dating this. In addition, over 230,000 refugees who have fled to neighbouring countries to avoid the violence.

Strengthening Peacemaking Capacities Among Key Actors in Africa

10 December, 2013. The UNITAR Regional Training Programme to Enhance Conflict Prevention and Peacemaking in Africa, the 12th continental programme organized to date, concluded on 28 November in Addis Ababa.

27 November 2013, Hiroshima, Japan - The UNITAR Hiroshima Office held its 77th Public Session on 13 November, examining Post-2014 Afghanistan and the Role of Japan.
2014 will see the withdrawal of a significant number of troops from Afghanistan as well as a presidential election. This Public Session provided an important opportunity to consider the direction of post-2014 Afghanistan as well as the role of Japan.

28 November 2013, Geneva, Switzerland - UNITAR organizes a high-level event to start the celebration of the Institute's 50th anniversary.  A framework of cooperation between the Group of 77 and China, Geneva Chapter, and UNITAR will be signed in this important event.  The Prime Minister of Algeria will make a keynote speech.

18 November 2013, Bangkok - UNOSAT joined some 100 disaster management professionals representing 20 countries from Asia and the Pacific for a two-day meeting convened by OCHA to discuss ideas and best practices in humanitarian assistance and emergency preparedness. This was the fifth meeting of the “Regional Humanitarian Partnership” in the region.

15 November,2013,Hiroshima, Japan - The UNITAR Hiroshima Office was proud to host Professor U. Joy Ogwu, Permanent Representative of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to the United Nations, on Thursday 14 November. Professor Ogwu met with the 2013 UNITAR Youth Ambassadors, Ms. Sae Murai, Hiroshima Jogakuin High School, and Mr. Yuuki Yanagawa, Hiroshima Gakuin High School, and discussed the role of today’s youth, gender, diplomacy, and peace.

14 November 2013, Bangkok, Thailand - Since October 2013 a UNOSAT office is active within the Information and Communications Technology and Disaster Reduction Division at ESCAP in Bangkok.
