Ambassador Thomas Fitschen is Director for the United Nations, Cyber Foreign Policy and Counterterrorism of the Federal Foreign Office of Germany. Prior to taking up this assignment in 2015, Ambassador Fitschen was Deputy Permanent Representative of Germany to the Office of the United Nations and the other International Organizations in Geneva. In previous assignments, he served as Head of the General Assembly Affairs Division and Deputy Head of the Ministry’s Task Force Rule of Law Promotion from 2008-2011, in addition to serving in New York at the German Permanent Mission (2005-2008) and in Berlin as Deputy Head of the Task Force Global Issues (2001-2005) and as desk officer at the Division for International Cooperation against Organized Crime and Terrorism (1991-2001). Dr. Fitschen is a member of the German Society of International Law, the European Society of International Law and the German United Nations Association, and he publishes regularly on international law and the United Nations.
