CIFAL Shanghai Offers Assistance to Cambodia on E-Commerce and Information Technology Security Strategies

19 April - 1 May 2017, Shanghai, China – As part of China’s strategy to promote economic growth and alleviate poverty, e-commerce plays a key role in achieving development objectives. China is encouraging businesses and enterprises to establish e-commerce platforms and to enhance the flow of goods in poor areas. However, to achieve development goals, online security, access to online payments, the promotion and facilitation of cross-border trade in goods, logistics and infrastructure is key, especially in developing countries. 

Participants of the seminar.With the objective of providing government officials from Cambodia with a venue to discuss the role of e-commerce and information technologies in facilitating means and opportunities to promote trade and economic growth, the International Training Centre for Authorities and Leaders (CIFAL) in Shanghai with the support of the Ministry of Commerce of China hosted the seminar “E-Commerce and Information Technology Security for Cambodia” from 19 April to 1 May 2017 in Shanghai, China. 

Mr. Zhen Li, Deputy Director of the Department of Foreign Economic Cooperation of Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce extended a warm welcome to the 20 government officials from Cambodia and highlighted “this seminar aims to provide a venue to discuss the crucial role of e-commerce and information technologies in fostering development”. 

Mr. Genxiang Wang, Director of CIFAL Shanghai, Mr. Yugang Wu, Deputy Director of CIFAL Shanghai, Mr. Zhen Li from the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce, and Mr. Van Dara from the Ministry of Commerce of Cambodia.Mr. Genxiang Wang, Director of CIFAL Shanghai also welcomed the participants and stressed “the seminar’s major objective is to strengthen friendship relations between China and Cambodia and to promote the development of e-commerce and information technology security in Cambodia through this learning experience.” 

Mr. Van Dara, Deputy Director General of the General Directorate of Trade Support Service of the Ministry of Commerce of Cambodia expressed his gratitude to the Chinese government and to CIFAL Shanghai for this opportunity. “The seminar will further promote cooperation in the field of e-commerce and information technology security between China and Cambodia, while deepening the friendship with Cambodia and other countries from the region who will benefit from this opportunity”.

This seminar is the second of a series of eight training activities that are part of the China Aid Training Plan to be delivered by CIFAL Shanghai throughout 2017.
