UNITAR Organizes Three Study-Visits in Partnership With the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in 2016

November 2016, Geneva, Switzerland - Continuing a long-term partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, UNITAR provided Saudi Arabian diplomats the opportunity to gain in-depth understanding on a variety of topics relating to international relations and multilateral diplomacy. The three study-visits were each five days long and were as follows: Russian Foreign Policy in Moscow; Active Communication, Public Speaking and Working with the Media in London, and New York’s Multilateral Working Environment in New York.

The training in Moscow took place from 3 to 7 October, in a joint effort with Foreign Policy Analysis Group. Topics discussed ranged from Russian policies towards the European Union and the Middle East to debates centred around Russian oil policies and their impact on the Saudi Arabian market. A high-level meeting with Mr. Mikhail Leonidovich Bogdanov, Deputy-Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, took place at the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The training session in London from 24 to 28 October tackled issues of effective communication, public speaking and media training. The highly interactive training was conducted by former BBC journalist, Claire Doole, as well as by senior international UNITAR consultant Jerome L’Host.

The training in New York commenced one week after from 31 October to 4November 2016. Participants received briefings from UNITAR experts and UN officials on the United Nations system. Topics discussed included the functioning of the General Assembly and its committees, the Security Council, Agenda 2030 and private sector engagement, and included presentations on the Office of the Secretary-General and the Department of Political Affairs.
