A staggering 1.25 million people die on the world’s roads every single year and up to 50 million more are left injured or disabled.

Globally, over 500 children under the age of 18 are killed on the road each day. These numbers make road traffic injuries one of the leading causes of death worldwide and the leading cause of death amongst the most economically active citizens – those between the ages of 15 and 29.

  • To provide an overview of road safety legislation applicable to children
  • To increase knowledge on how to avoid risks for children on the roads
  • To promote the use of Child Restraint Systems inside vehicles
  • To provide a short training session on vehicle extrication process

 

The Conference is divided in two sessions:

 

One-day learning session covering the following topics:

  • Global Goals on Child Road Safety
  • Child Road Safety in the Dominican Republic
  • Research in Child Road Safety
  • Child Restraint Systems
  • Statistics
  • Legislation
  • Safety Recommendations 
  • Rescue, First Aid, Emergency, CRS Installation

The second day included an emergency simulation on vehicle extrication in the event of a road traffic crash, addressing the following topics:

  • Vehicle extrication technical procedure
  • Handling Child Restraint Systems in the event of a crash
  • Procedure and tools to use in the event of a crash

The Conference targets professionals dedicated to Child Road Safety, public authorities, private institutions, automobile clubs, research centres, civil society and media.
