CIFAL Atlanta- EQUINOX Seminar: United Nations Sustainable Development Goals
Established in March 2017 as a platform to advocate the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, the annual EQUINOX Week and Symposium are dedicated to socio-economic-ecological impacts of sustainability. The initiative advances a diverse set of interdisciplinary scholarship and collaboration -- catalyzing partnership among students, alumni, faculty, staff, professionals, policy makers, stakeholders, community members, and advocates.
Civil society, industries, and several governments along with the United Nations are initiating inclusive, universal, and united efforts to reach the UN Sustainable Development Agenda by 2030 for transforming our world and enhancing the lives of people. Through diverse disciplinary lenses, the EQUINOX focuses on the interconnected UN SDGs to promote innovative concepts and practices in sustainability from micro to macro scales -- for people and planet.
The EQUINOX aims to promote a dynamic dialogue among the KSU community and other institutions to advocate innovative concepts and practices in sustainability and its future trajectory through diverse disciplinary lenses -- focusing on the interconnected United Nations Sustainable Development Goals for people and planet. This year we are focusing on the UN SDGs through the lens of built environments-- from micro (buildings) to macro (cities and communities) scales. Topics include sustainable living/well-being, energy efficiency in buildings/cities, ecological design, and water management.
The forum will have the following panel discussions:
- Toward Sustainable Communities: At a Variety of Scales
- Sustainability-Related Attitudes and Behavior at Kennesaw State University
- Sustainable Practices in the Maintenance of Upgrade of Students’ Dormitories
The symposium will have 2 sessions for the day that will be divided into various topics and discussions delivered by multiple local and international leaders and experts on the Sustainable Development Goals. The sessions that will be discussed are the following:
- Global Goals- United Nations Sustainable Development Goals
- Local Leaderships- United Nations Sustainable Development Goals
The forum will be an informal event where faculty members will have a chance to speak on their field and how it relates to the Sustainable Development Goals. Dr. Temi Egbelakin, CIFAL Newcastle Director, will be giving closing remarks for the event. The Symposium will be split into two sessions, with the first session focusing on the Global Goals of the United Nations. Dr. Egbelakin will also be guest speaking during that session and will be accompanied by the Associate Director of the CIFAL Global Network.
Students, Graduates, Community members and leaders, Faculty and members of local organizations and businesses will be the targeted beneficiaries.
