The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a set of global goals to eradicate poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all as part of a new global sustainable development agenda. This declaration coincides in time with the priorities established in Europe for Framework 2020, where intelligent, sustainable and inclusive growth is sought to help a European revival.

The SDGs were agreed in September 2015 by the Heads of State in the United Nations assembly and so far, there are multiple forums, summits and international meetings that have supported them and are aligning their policies and priorities with them, the Last the World Urban Forum of Kuala Lumpur (WUF9) in February 2018. The city of Malaga has a special link with the United Nations and will soon have a UN CIFAL training centre, specially oriented towards the Mediterranean area. It is time for these priorities to be known in all areas of civil society, economic, political and social actors in these territories, and to reflect on the best formulas to contribute to their fulfilment and follow-up.

The course aims to raise awareness and reflect on the SDGs set by the United Nations by 2030 and its connection with the European priorities 2020, as well as to analyse the commitments and legal, political, social and lifestyle implications in the Mediterranean.

  • To access knowledge, material and updated information on the contemporary challenge on the Agenda 2030
  • To examine relationships and synergies that may exist between European growth and the 17 SDGs and its 169 targets.
  • To point out the role that cities can and must play in the development of the European urban Agenda.
