The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) came into effect this year to achieve the extraordinary goals of ending poverty, combatting climate change and fighting inequality and injustice by the year 2030. In order to achieve these Global Goals, we must work to empower young people across every nation. If children and young people from primary school through university are taught about these goals, they will have the power to become the generation that changed the world.  This presentation has been designed specifically to address the knowledge needs of young people and raise awareness regarding the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The Seminar aims to increase awareness of the SDGs and their relevance both nationally and internationally to the 2015-2030 development agenda.

At the end of the Seminar, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the origins and purpose of the SDGs
  • Identify key challenges in implementing Sustainable Development Goals
  • Create space for ideas to emerge on how to prepare for an efficient and holistic implementation of the Goals
  • Recognize how Georgia State University can harness its influencing power to help shape a new, sustainable society

The presentation will consist of the following components:

  • Background on the CIFAL Global Network
  • History of the UN-MDGs
  • Background of the SDGs
  • The role of young leaders

How the work of students, researchers and faculty at the university can be engaged in the goals of the Agenda.

The targeted audience includes school faculty and students and significant invitees from the local community.
