CIFAL Jeju - Youth Workshop IX
Since 2012, the Youth Workshop has been emphasizing the importance of youths’ engagement in global development discussion. As we aim to contribute to advance international agendas such as the Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development and the Sustinable Development Goals (SDGs), youths are a key actor and a driving force in implementing those goals through their unlimited ideas and energy. This year’s workshop introduces the important role that youth have in advocating the SDGs. Advocacy is a great way to raise awareness and change practices. It can be started from a local level to international levels. Youths have more access to new technologies and ideas. With such advantages, they can effectively use their resources to make great impacts. The participants from different backgrounds and interests will engage in discussions and work together to build effective strategies and share lessons.
This workshop aims to educate undergraduate and graduate students on Sustainable Development related topics and equip them to be able to contribute to the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals.
At the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:
- Describe SDG 7 on Affordable and Clean Energy
- Discuss SDG 11 on Sustainable Cities and Communities and related targets
- Identify the different roles youth can play in advancing the SDGs
- Act as advocates for the SDGs
The workshop will include the following components:
Day 1:
- Lecture on Youths and Advocacy
- Field trip to International Electric Vehicle Expo
- Group Discussions
Day 2:
- Field trip to Jeju Global Research Center of Korea Institute of Energy Research
- Field trip to Jeju Urban Regeneration Center
- Tour of Jeju’s Old Town Regeneration Sites
- Lecture by Jeju Olle Foundation
Day 3:
- Presentation of group discussion results
The event will be delivered through:
- Lectures by experts
- Group discussions
Beneficiaries of this workshop include undergraduate, graduate school students and international students in Korea who are interested in youth advocacy, alternative energy, climate change, and sustainable cities.
