The Skills Camp: Nurturing Grassroots Change through Partnerships (2018) or the UP-NGCP Project is a joint initiative between the University of the Philippines through the Centre International de Formation des Autorites et Leaders (UP-CIFAL Philippines), and the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP). The project aims to improve the lives of socio-economically in need communities that are host to NGCP facilities through sustainable livelihood.

For 2018, the project will be implemented in seven (7) partner sites all over the Philippines, namely:

•            Brgy. Quinale (Brgy. 4), Paete, Laguna;
•            Brgy. Bankas Heights, Toril, Davao City;
•            Brgy. Hilusig, Mahaplag, Leyte;
•            Brgy. San Gonzalo, Labrador, Pangasinan;
•            Brgy. Nagtupacan, Sta. Maria, Ilocos Sur;
•            Brgy. Balsik, Hermosa, Bataan; and
•            Brgy. Sampaloc 3, Dasmariñas, Cavite

The integrative training is one of the two trainings under the Skills Camp project. It aims to capacitate communities toward the sustainability of the participants’ livelihood endeavors through appropriate skills training using the integrative modules developed last 2017.

The integrative skills training is composed of topics on marketing, budgeting, and management of small businesses.

Specifically, topics include the following:

  • Mobilizing the Community
  •  Basic Record-Keeping
  • Materials Management and Inventory Control
  • Basic Value Chain
  • Marketing

For the Integrative Skills Training, the resource person will discourse the assigned topic of the day, which will be followed by open discussion with the participants.

The Integrative Skills Training starts with the discussion of a topic by the resource speaker.

Afterwards, exercises or activities will be given by the resource person. These can be done individually or by group. Real time consultations and brainstorming session are conducted during this time.

At the end of the session, participants are asked to present their outputs.

Participants are individuals who are below the poverty threshold by Philippine national standards.
