The personal data of participants applying for, registering for or participating in UNITAR's training courses and other events is governed by the Data Protection and Privacy Policy. By applying for, registering for or participating in this event, the participant acknowledges that he or she is, (or they are) aware of the policy and agree to its terms.

The proposed strategic approach builds on previous successful cooperation between UNITAR and UN Member States for customized training activities, including training workshops in the field of Leadership. This new programme will further enhance the capacities of the members of UNDP by strengthening their leadership skills.

To be a successful leader, skills and qualities such as charisma, strategic vision, confidence and public speaking abilities, are essential. Studies suggest that followers usually identify with charismatic personalities who portray mature and well-educated qualities, and who inspire others to do great things and work towards bringing about a positive and lasting change in their societies. Apart from being captivating and energising, leaders are expected to follow and consider ethical implications, to manage and deliver efficient decision-making, develop and implement a strategic vision among all fractions of a society. Kuwait’s government officials and civil servants will acquire skills on leadership, leadership communication and influence.

The aim of this workshop is to help participants become effective, impactful, and transformative leaders, to prepare them to excel in today’s ever-changing environment. Participants will be provided with tools to understand how to analyse the external and internal environment, understand the constraints of the system, where resources can be leveraged and developed, and inspire others within their organisation.

  • Define the functions of leadership and what is expected from leaders;
  • Understand the role of the leader in creating and sustaining a vision;
  • Understand the different styles of leadership and their impact on people;
  • Know how to build and reinforce a positive organizational culture.

This workshop will enhance participants’ understanding and appreciation of the definition of leadership and the qualities of a strong leader, the theories of leadership and how each can be evaluated against one’s own skills, the differing styles of leadership particularly in a cultural context, the importance and practice of effective communication skills, and techniques and strategies to practice strong leadership in times of crisis, decision making and risk management.

The workshop will comprise of sessions about the definition and the dynamics of leadership, and a group discussion on charismatic and visionary leadership. The theoretical elements will then be complemented by exercises and interactive sessions, allowing participants to evaluate leadership criteria, their own leadership style and those of their peers.

UNITAR workshops are designed to be highly interactive and participatory and will include a variety of pedagogical tools to enable the participants to acquire a thorough knowledge and understanding of the substantive issues at work, in addition to the transfer of skills and techniques to enable them to function effectively and efficiently in their professional roles.

The workshop is designed for twenty participants. UNDP will be responsible for selecting participants, considering the relevance of the subject matter for the duties of the beneficiaries.
