Looking Toward COP 26: The Role of International Organizations, International Financial Institutions, and Governments in Energy Efficiency, Food Security and Just Transitions in Rural Areas, Part 2
The event will take place on Tuesday, 26 October 2021 from 10:00 am - 11:30 am EST.
This panel considers the adverse social, environmental and livelihood barriers that rural areas encounter in the path to energy efficiency. Experts will examine the identity and livelihood impacts that vulnerable groups encounter in order to share guidance on best practices for energy innovation and rural electrification. Social factors for harnessing sustainable energy and achieving energy efficiency overlook the dislocation of villagers, small farmers and rural peoples. Previous modernization funds have exported natural resources, but spurred land disputes with peasant farmers. The panel will explore methods for land use conflict management to improve energy efficiency in rural areas for multilateral environmental diplomacy objectives.
