The personal data of participants applying for, registering for or participating in UNITAR's training courses and other events is governed by the Data Protection and Privacy Policy. By applying for, registering for or participating in this event, the participant acknowledges that he or she is, (or they are) aware of the policy and agree to its terms.

Given the complexity and number of processes that will contribute to the development of the Post-2015 Development Agenda, United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) is organizing a series of interactive technical briefings for members of delegations and other government officials at the United Nations in New York, and later in Geneva. The overall objective of the briefings is to strengthen knowledge for evidence-based decision making in the formulation of the Post-2015 Development Agenda to be agreed by Member States in September 2015.

The series will feature around 15 different sessions, and will

v

Assist participants to access the most up-to-date and essential information coming from the numerous processes that will contribute to the Post-2015 agenda, and key outcomes of ongoing Member States’ discussions in various fora, as well as allowing newly arrived delegates to ‘catch up’;

v

Provide a dynamic and interactive space where delegates can exchange views on the Post-2015 development agenda and have a more in-depth discussion, as needed.

 Strengthen knowledge for evidence-based decision making in the formulation of the Post-2015 Development Agenda, and, more specifically,

  • Assist participants to access the most up-to-date and essential information coming from the numerous processes that will contribute to the Post-2015 agenda, and key outcomes of ongoing Member States’ discussions in various fora, as well as allowing newly arrived delegates to ‘catch up’;
  • Provide a dynamic and interactive space where delegates can exchange views on the Post-2015 development agenda and have a more in-depth discussion, as needed. The Briefing 5 will focus on promoting Sustained, Inclusive and Sustainable Growth, Employment and Equality in the context of the Post-2015 Development Agenda.

  • Identify the links between social policy, economic development and environmental sustainability, and the importance of integrated approaches that aim at policy coherence;
  • Describe the relevance of a focus on inequality to the post-2015 debate and demonstrate the importance of both equality of opportunity and equality of outcome;
  • Identify the links between economic development, employment and the reduction of poverty and inequality;
  • Highlight the relevance of care and social reproduction for sustainable development of communities and societies, and the gendered nature of care work;
  • Identify the value of universalism in designing transformative social policies, and the relevance of universalism to the promotion of equality; and
  • Describe the importance of meaningful participation of disadvantaged groups in the conception, design and evaluation of social policies.

As a follow-up to the module, participants should be able to have increased “confidence” in:

  • Applying the acquired information on the social dimension of the post-2015 debate, in its connection with economic and environmental dimensions, when conveying their country’s national perspectives;
  • Evaluating opportunities for their country’s participation in various ongoing discussions, with a view to contributing to the process.
