The rapid adoption of social media fundamentally transforms the way of communicating and learning. Social media closes the gap between poorer and richer in access to information and communication channels. We have testified the power of social media in stirring emotions, winning elections and triggering revolutions. Politicians and protestors both communicate through Twitter, as well as keep Facebook pages.

The seminar aims to provide delegates with a better understanding of the different tools and strategies available for creating social media campaigns and how these can help to support democracy education and democratic governance.

To enable participants to:

  • Learn about the most important social media platforms and tools;
  • Understand strategies employed in social media campaigns;
  • Be sensitized to the possibilities for enhancing education on democratic governance through social media.
