The ISPRS Student Consortium (ISPRS SC) and the Working Group V/5, in collaboration with UNITAR Operational Satellite Applications Programme (UNOSAT) – a technology-intensive programme under the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR)- , Geo-informatics and Space Technology Development Agency (GISTDA) -Thailand’s public organization leading the country’s activities in space technology and geo-informatics applications – and ASEAN Research and Training Center for Space Technology and Applications (ARTSA), which aims to provide services in education and training, knowledge sharing and enhancement, and awareness raising in geo-informatics in ASEAN region jointly organize THE SPATIAL EXCHANGE PROGRAM under MOTIVATE Learning: Making Opportunities to Initiate Valuable Alliance through Experiential Learning – a project that aims to build the capabilities of students and young professionals in the fields of remote sensing, photogrammetry and spatial information sciences for 8 days during August 13-20, 2018 at Space Krenovation Park (SKP), Sri Racha, Chonburi, Thailand.

The activity is envisioned as a pioneering collaboration among the organizations involved, which aims to strengthen the linkages between students and young professionals with prominent professors and experts in the profession leading to future collaborations. The program aims to increase the mobility of future experts and leaders in the fields of remote sensing, photogrammetry and spatial information sciences. This event will be organized right after the summer school for 8 days during August 13-20, 2018 and invited lecturers or mentor will also be considered as the visiting researchers. The target number of participants is from 12 to 16 individuals.

  • Define and describe basic concepts and terminology related to Geospatial Information Technology (GIT)
  • Explain the role of geo-information in Disaster risk management - Preparedness, Response and recovery
  • Apply geospatial information for decision-making related to Disaster Risk Management ( For DRR group only)

The Spatial Exchange Program will be implemented by inviting international professors and local experts as major mentors for mini project or special problem of participants under leaning by doing concept and will be overseen by the board members of the ISPRS SC and WG V/5. Applicants are requested to express your interested topic in application form related with 4 special topics as below but will not be limited to the following trends in remote sensing and spatial information sciences. Mini project will be implemented under supervision of local experts utilized GISTDA facilities follow with presentation on the last day. UNOSAT's contribution accounted for approximately 32 learning hours (4 days).

  • A Synergistic Approach on Mapping Using Remote Sensing and GIS
  • Communicating Science: How Can We Use Maps to Tell Stories ?
  • Geo-Bigdata for disaster management

With the evolution of technology, different kinds of satellite imageries are now being collected by various satellite missions. In the past, data scarcity used to be one of the major challenges, but in the present, the era of big data has arrived. How do we make use of different satellite imageries and is it possible to develop a robust synergistic approach on mapping using remote sensing and GIS? This topic aims to explore which satellite imageries can be used in addressing scientific and societal issues and to develop a potential methodology on how to improve results through a synergistic mapping approach.

Applications for the program will be opened to students and young professionals and researchers, with priority given to applications from developing countries.
