UNITAR and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)  is organizing  a three day training workshop on climate change for the Arab states.The Arab region is a diversified region in terms of its climate change impacts and threats and also in terms of country classifications (least developed, middle income and high income). With this diversification in mind, the common need across all countries is the knowledge on how to adapt to the different climate change challenges.

The workshop aims to enhance participants’ understanding of the main measures needed to achieve adaptation, such as mainstreaming climate change science, promoting dialogue at the local and global levels, and integrating adaptation into the development objectives.

  It focuses on five major themes:

  • Climate Change Science;
  • The UNFCCC negotiation process and legal aspects;
  • Climate change adaptation;
  •  Mainstreaming climate change adaptation into development plans and policies in Arab countries;
  •  Climate Change Mitigation.

Five training modules will serve as the core reading and training material for the participants. The topics of the five training modules have been designed to reflect the key ingredients necessary for effective adaptation.

The five major themes are:-

  • Climate Change Science;
  • The UNFCCC negotiation process and legal aspects;
  • Climate change adaptation;
  •  Mainstreaming climate change adaptation into development plans and policies in Arab countries;
  •  Climate Change Mitigation.

The training will be delivered over three days and the main mode of delivery is by power point presentation. This workshop aims to enhance participant's understanding of the main measures needed to achieve adaptation, such as mainstreaming climate change science, promoting dialogue at the local and global levels, and integrating adaptation into the development objectives.

Hands on exercises and practical exercises will also be an important part of the training to involve participants and allow participants put into practice the theory.
