It is up to the new generation of ambitious young people to create innovative solutions and contribute to the future well-being of humanity. The cornerstone of this is a global spirit of international cooperation based on the exchange of ideas. In our globalised world, English has emerged as the most commonly spoken language in the world, with a total of 1.3 billion English speakers worldwide. To be able to communicate across cultures, it is therefore essential to improve your English skills.
Therefore, Education First (EF) and UNITAR have joined together to offer an English language training programme for French-Swiss students and young adults. The programme will not only offer sophisticated English language training in the prestigious halls of the Palais des Nations, but will also allow them to gain first-hand experience of the multifaceted workings of the United Nations. As a result, participants will acquire the skills necessary to become the global solution-makers of tomorrow.
The Education First United Nations programme will take place in Geneva and consists of a one-week face-to-face English language course for French Swiss students and young adults. The course includes English classes taught by Education First's professional French-speaking English teachers and several modules provided by UNITAR.
Each day there will be a three-hour English module provided by Education First, followed by 3.5-hour UNITAR training modules.
- Module 1: Workshop on the Sustainable Development Goals
- Module 2: Field visits to Geneva-based UN agencies (such as the WTO)
- Module 3: Model United Nations training workshop
- Module 4: Workshop on negotiation skills and techniques
- Module 5: United Nations career workshop
- Module 6: Private guided tour of the Palais des Nations
- Module 7: Dinner Cruise on Lake Geneva
The EF United Nations programme will consist of daily English language training courses provided by Education First in the Palais des Nations. These training sessions will last approximately 3 hours. After this, the students will enjoy a wide array of modules provided by UNITAR.
In these courses, UNITAR will provide students with valuable insights into the multifaceted workings of the United Nations. They will be given lessons in practical skills in negotiation, but also be able to enjoy the spirit of the UN by visiting the grounds of the United Nations in Geneva.
Due to Educations First`s regional focus, the EF United Nations programme will be exclusively open for swiss-french students and young adults between the ages of 18 and 25 that wish to improve their English skills and learn more about the United Nations.
UNITAR and Education First will be responsible for the overall design, coordination and implementation of the EF United Nations programme. It will liaise with participants on a regular basis prior to the activity's implementation in order to ensure a smooth and flawless organization for everyone involved.
