With the increasing demand and outreach of WAIFEM’s capacity building programmes, and in line with its strategic plan, the Institute in collaboration with United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) is organizing an e-learning advanced diploma course in Banking Supervision. 

This course provides an overview of how central banks and other regulatory institutions carry out supervisory responsibilities, emphasizing risk-based supervision and Basel II issues. 

At the end of the course, participants are all expected to:

1. Acquired valuable knowledge on Risk -Based Supervision Principles and its merit in preventing or limiting Systemic risk and fostering financial stability.

2. Understand the principles and concepts of corporate governance and its role in the operational efficiency of institutions and enhancing the technical and managerial skills of participants.

3. Appreciate the role of treasury management in the conduct of banking business to safeguard liquidity.

4. Acquired valuable knowledge on financial stability and its merit in maintaining confidence in the economy, by fostering the conditions that promote the resilience and stability of the financial system.

5. Appreciate the nature of money and capital markets and their role in resource allocation to needy sectors of the economy, as well as the promotion of investments.

Week 6: Wrap-up

The course will be delivered online with weekly discussion forum and assignments plus weekly quiz. Course is internet-based, moderated by international/regional experts, asynchronous, and puts an emphasis on online discussions, peer-to-peer review and self-paced learning. The participants will be primarily responsible for their own learning over the span of the course. The course will consist of the following components:

• Compulsory and optional reading material, intended to teach the basic concepts and principles of the weekly modules.

• External links to additional books, articles, documents, and websites related to the modules.

• A glossary of terms and acronyms provided as a learning tool throughout the course.

• A Quiz at the end of each module.

• A Community Discussion Board will be available for participants to post questions or comments visible to the instructor and other participants. This discussion board will be moderated by the course mentors. 

The course, which comprises five (5) modules is designed for middle- to senior level bank supervisors and officials whose duties involve risk and credit analysis as well as ensuring compliance with international financial supervision standards.
