Workshop on Diplomatic Protocol
In the context of a partnership agreement signed with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Division for Multilateral Diplomacy Programme Unit (MDPU) of the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) will implement a face-to-face training workshop on Diplomatic Protocol in Geneva from 26 to 28 August 2019, in partnership with an organisation specializing in protocol and etiquette.
This workshop should provide participants with the tools to sharpen their professional diplomatic etiquette, procedure, and language proficiency for both bilateral and multilateral settings. Participants should learn how to conduct themselves in these settings, and the process of hosting formal and informal diplomatic meetings, as well as gain proficiency in cross-cultural communication
By the end of the workshop, participants should have:
- Empowered knowledge and practice on diplomatic protocol when attending, hosting or organizing bilateral and multilateral meetings, conferences & events
- Sharpened professional diplomatic protocol and etiquette competency in various forms of verbal, personal & written, email interaction with counterpart around the world
- Refined indirect diplomatic communication style and enhanced diplomatic language proficiency
- Increased cross-cultural communication competency
- Perfected diplomatic dining etiquette skills in preparation for global social events. During the working luncheons, participants will benefit from a full step-by-step tutorial on European (British & French) and American dining etiquette
The workshop is divided into 3 days.
Day 1 : Personal Diplomacy & Diplomatic Protocol
Day 2 : Bilateral Diplomacy & Diplomatic Protocol
Day 3 : Multilateral Diplomacy & Diplomatic Protocol
Participants will be engaged in a series of lectures, presentations and group assessment activities.
18 participants from the Ministry of the Foreigh Affairs of Saudi Arabia and from the Permanent Mission in Geneva.
