The e-Workshop on Stakeholder Engagement focuses on approaches to coordination and stakeholder engagement at different levels or spheres - personal and professional -, with different stakeholder groups in different situations both businesses as usual and crisis. Practical exercises and case studies will be used to expose participants to different situations which they could face in their professional career. 

This interactive online workshop taking place during three consecutive half days is meant to provide information and knowledge on the topic Stakeholder Engagement, covering various skills and techniques.

The e-workshop will take place at 13.00-17.00 (CET +1) for the three days (approximately 12 training hours total).


By the end of the e-workshop you will be able to: 

  • Gain understanding of the complexity involved in coordination and stakeholder engagement in different social, political and cultural contexts;
  • Identify potential stakeholders, domestic as well as foreign, at different levels –local, sub-national, national and international;
  • Assess stakeholders’ specific needs and interests;
  • Develop skills to initiate, encourage and sustain suitable channels of stakeholder engagement and coordination with the different potential stakeholders in an early stage.

This e-workshop will take place at 13.00-17.00 CET +1 from 8 - 10 November 2021 and will discover different themes of Stakeholder Engagement. All participants will take part in highly interactive exercises in order to further enhance the participants’ understanding of the topic.


This e-workshop will take place on the platform Zoom and will be facilitated by an expert on the theme during three half days. The material presented in the workshop will be interactive and possible assignments will be given for participants to further advance their knowledge.  

Participants successfully completing the e-workshop will be awarded a certificate of participation. 


Meritxell Martell 

Meritxell Martell is the founder and director of Merience, a consultancy company focused on environmental risk governance, including analysis and development of communication and stakeholder engagement strategies and methodologies in the field of complex socio-technical processes.

Dr. Martell is a graduate of Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB, Barcelona, Spain) and she received her PhD in Environmental Sciences from the University of East Anglia (UEA, Norwich, United Kingdom) in 2001. She has over 15 years of experience as an international consultant on communication and stakeholder engagement in complex environmental decision-making processes. She also lectures at UPC and UPF in environmental communication Master courses. In addition, Meritxell has successfully participated and coordinated several European projects and is an expert consultant to different international organisations, such as the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the Joint Research Centre (JRC) of the European Commission or the OECD Nuclear Energy Agency.

The course is open for anyone with an interest to discover and gain more knowledge about the selected topic. No prior knowledge or skills are needed to participate.
