In order to perform efficiently in Vienna’s multilateral working environment, it is crucial for diplomats to have a sound knowledge of the structure and functioning of the UN System and its various Vienna-based components. Over the years, the mandate, governance and decision-making of the UN agencies, funds and specialized agencies based in Vienna have evolved considerably and diplomats are increasingly called upon to cover the work of various organizations with diverse decision-making mechanisms. This briefing will provide participants with a concise overview of the United Nations System at Vienna and strengthen their understanding of the structure, mandate and governance of the main Vienna-based organizations.
