CIFAL Jeju- Resilient Livelihoods of the Urban Poor during the Pandemic from a Gender Perspective
Women and girls in urban informal settlements, in particular, have very limited access to employment and to essential services at school and in public life as well. The measures including lockdowns and social distancing to contain the COVID 19 pandemic have made it much more challenging for women in urban slums to carry on their economic activities for livelihoods. Especially, those dependent on daily wages cannot afford to leave work. There is also a growing concern about their safety issues. During COVID-19, sexual harassment and different forms of violence against women continue to occur in public spaces. The realities as such have a negative impact on women’s freedom of movement, livelihood opportunities, and access to services.
The event aims to provide a platform to dialogue on different strategies and policies that could be adapted to address gender equality issues during the COVID-19 context
By the end of this event, participants will be able to:
- Better understanding of the COVID-19 implication on the resilient plans for the urban poor from a gender perspective
- Sharing policy strategies for pro-women approaches to the crisis
The event is comprised of presentations with experts, followed by Q&A sessions
Government officials and professionals with interest in gender equality issues.
