In 2019, UNDESA and UNITAR will be running the fourth edition of the SDGs Learning, Training and Practice Centre, an initiative that aims to showcase recent training and learning products and tools and support knowledge and skill development for delegates attending the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development.

This year’s opening of the Centre will be combined with the launch of UN SDG:Learn Platform, the results of a partnership of various UN entities, academia and universities and the private sector with the objective to enable learners identify and access learning products best suited to their needs. This partnership is coordinated by UNITAR and the UN System Staff College, the two UN agencies with learning at the core of their mandate, but UN SDG:Learn Platform is a truly collaborative effort amongst UN and other key global, regional and national providers of training, learning and capacity development services with a focus on the 2030 Agenda and the SDGs.

This initiative aims to enable individual learners or benefiting Organizations to make an informed decision about the kind of SDG-related learning product or service that can help them best achieve their objectives in terms of individual learning, professional development and/ or institutional effectiveness. This includes a simpler way of accessing learning services and professional guidance on matching specific needs with the most adapted learning solutions available.

UN SDG:Learn will consist of three main components: The Platform; The Partnership; and The Programme. The Platform will be a gateway to match learners’ needs with the offers by Partners organizations targeting diverse audiences from government officials, UN staff, private sector executives and employees, NGO workers, young people, journalists and citizens at large. The Platform will feature special landing pages for regions, and will also provide additional functionalities in the future such as special landing pages for selected target audiences and built-in objective assessment questions to help the user define her/his learning path. The Partnership will be a community of practitioners bringing together the main providers of learning solutions on the SDGs from the UN, academia and universities and the private sector. The Programme will feature joint learning initiatives that will be designed as part of this Partnership to offer integrated learning support to countries. UN SDG:Learn is ultimately about allowing UN family working on collaboration with key other partners to reach out to millions of people whose professional and personal choices will make a difference if we are to achieve the SDGs. More information is available in the enclosed concept note.

Following the opening of the Centre by UNDESA and UNITAR, the Deputy Secretary-General and the Heads of UNITAR and UNSSC will inaugurate the Platform followed by a demo session and short interventions by the UN SDG:Learn Partners representing the three large constituencies whose learning offer is featured through the Platform. The closing session will propose space for an exchange on learning needs and solutions for the SDGs. In particular, it will aim to address the ways in which the UN SDG:Learn, including the Platform, Partnership and Programme, can be best leveraged to meet the needs of the countries, institutions and individual learners.
