Internship – Social Media and Communications
UNITAR/UNOSAT is a technology-intensive programme delivering imagery analysis and satellite solutions to relief and development organisations within and outside the UN system to help make a difference in critical areas such as humanitarian relief, human security, and strategic territorial and development planning.
UNOSAT is seeking a motivated social media/communications intern to provide support to the on-going Citizen Cyberlab project looking at crowdsourcing the analysis of media coming out of a disaster. The intern will assist the project lead to develop a social media strategy with the aim of:
· Engaging with and connecting experts and online volunteers around disaster, humanitarian, and development topical areas (such as engineering, nutrition, medicine, and security);
· Engendering volunteer-based analysis of video, pictures, and other media within the disaster, humanitarian, and development topical areas, and;
The intern will also assist in general outreach and communication efforts as requested.
The Intern will have track record in science engagement and communication, and particularly a good knowledge of ICT and social media, so they can promote the activities through different media channels (blogs, social network, twitter, etc.). Knowledge in design or user experience can be an advantage. Finally, a strong interest in disaster response, humanitarian operations, development issues, and related international affairs is required. Fluency in English is required and additional language skills are beneficial as well.
Duration of the internship is 6 months, please note that internships are not remunerated.
