This map illustrates satellite-detected building damage assessment as of 13 February 2018, over the southern part of Tongatapu island, Tonga, following the passage of the tropical cyclone GITA-18. The analysis was conducted using a post-event WorldView-2 image as of 13 February 2018. UNITAR-UNOSAT analysis identified 298 potentially damaged buildings within the towns of Hamula, Lavengatonga and Nakolo. According to the pre-building footprints provided by Humanitarian Open Street Map, this represents 55% of the total number of buildings in these towns. The satellite detected damage level was moderate to severe, in this part of the island. This is a preliminary analysis and has not yet been validated in the field. Please send ground feedback to UNITAR - UNOSAT
