This map illustrates satellite-detected building damage assessment as of 13 February 2018, over the northeastern part of Tongatapu Island, Tonga, following the passage of the tropical cyclone GITA-18. The analysis was conducted using post-event WorldView-2 images and pre-event WorldView-3 images as of 12 January 2018. A total of 548 buildings were detected as damaged (~43%) over the area of interest. The villages of Navutoka and Manuka were also affected by flooding in a number of neighborhoods. The overall estimated damage level is classified as severe. This is a preliminary analysis and has not yet been validated in the field. Please send ground feedback to UNITAR - UNOSAT.
