This map illustrates satellite-detected building damage assessment as of 16 February 2018, over the town and airport of Fua amotu, Tongatapu Island, Tonga, following the passage of the tropical cyclone GITA-18. The analysis was conducted using a post-event Pleiades image as of 16 February 2018 and a pre-event WorldView-3 image as of 12 January 2018. UNITAR-UNOSAT analysis identified 188 potentially damaged structures within the area. According to the pre-event building footprints provided by Humanitarian Open Street Map, this represents 38% of the total number of buildings analyzed. Some airport structures have been affected by the cyclone, but the airport runway does not present visible damage. Overall, the satellite detected damage level was moderate to severe, in this part of the island. This is a preliminary analysis and has not yet been validated in the field. Please send ground feedback to UNITAR - UNOSAT
