Multilateral Diplomacy Programme
An effective United Nations requires the full and meaningful participation of all Member States on a level playing field.
It is against this backdrop that UNITAR’s Multilateral Diplomacy Programme (MDP) works closely with Member States and a number of other partners to strengthen the capacities of diplomats and other government officers in multilateral diplomacy, particularly in view of increasing performance in conferences and meetings convened at the United Nations and through other regional organizations.
Our courses target professionals from different international organizations and academia.
Our portfolio comprises e-learning and face-to-face courses in the following thematic areas:
- Peace and Security Diplomacy
- UN System and Conference Diplomacy
- Skills Development
- Climate Change and Green Diplomacy
- The Women's Leadership Programme
We also provide specially-designed practice-oriented training for diplomats at major United Nations locations. Please visit our Core Diplomatic Training website for more information. From September 2015 to August 2016, UNITAR delivered Core Diplomatic Training activities in Geneva, Switzerland. From September 2016 to August 2017 UNITAR will deliver Core Diplomatic Training activities, in the framework of an Executive Diploma in Diplomatic Practice, in both Geneva and Vienna. UNITAR will award an Executive Diploma in Diplomatic Practice to participants who attend 8 or more of these workshops and who meet the other requirements of the Executive Diploma.
In addition to our regular course programme, we offer customized training, designed upon the request of individual UN Member States and/or in partnership with intergovernmental organizations.
