CIFAL Malaga and CIFAL Madrid Host Forum on Mobility and Tourism

Participants of the III Forum of Sustainable Mobility and Tourism 26 September 2018, Malaga, Spain - The International Training Centre for Authorities and Leaders in Malaga (CIFAL Malaga) and in Madrid (CIFAL Madrid) hosted the “III Forum on Sustainable Mobility and Tourism” in partnership with the Directorate General of Traffic of Spain and the City Council of Malaga.

Transport drives development. The flow of people and goods- locally and internationally- has been one of the core components that support economic and social development and is key to reach the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). According to the World Bank, transport consumes fossil-fuel and it is critical to the achievement of SDG 7 on energy. In the same line, it is necessary to achieve SDG 11 in order to build sustainable cities and communities through improvements in road safety.

Sustainable transport, by extension, drives sustainable development. This topic remains at the heart of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and it has the potential to ameliorate lives and livelihoods of people.

The main objective of the Forum was to discuss sustainable mobility within cities from a multi-stakeholder perspective. Simultaneously, attendees discussed about the importance of the sustainable tourism and the new economic opportunities that it could bring for locals. For this endeavour, capacity building for public sector and private sector actors is pivotal to ensure strategic alliances to achieve the 2030 Agenda objectives.

This event gathered 200 participants from the public and private sectors. BMW-Spain, Endesa, Calidad Pascual, Deloitte Spain, among other enterprises, presented their projects and vision regarding sustainable mobility in Spain. The public sector was represented by the Centre for Tourism of Spain and the Directorate General of Traffic of Spain that also presented some strategies to achieve sustainable mobility.

The III Forum of Sustainable Mobility and Tourism served as an important platform to discuss mobility as a tool to positive influence climate change and the creation of sustainable tourism in the future.
