PROGRAMME DESCRIPTION

The Peacekeeping Training Programme Unit (PTPU) offers a traineeship to university or postgraduate students. The traineeship is designed to allow the trainee to strengthen his or her knowledge and gain practical experience with the learning and training field, focusing on training security sector actors.

Within the framework of UNITAR, the Division for Peace supports the establishment of peaceful, just and inclusive societies through enabling individuals, institutions and organizations to contribute meaningfully to sustainable peace. The Division provides a range of capacity-building solutions, including but not limited to training and facilitation, coaching and mentoring, e-learning, online courses and academic programmes, advocacy, and advisory. The division's thematic portfolio includes such areas as peace operations; peace-making and conflict prevention; counterterrorism and preventing/countering violent extremism; disarmament, demobilization and reintegration; weapons and ammunition management; youth, peace and security; women, peace and security; and rule of law.

TRAINEESHIP

PTPU is now accepting applications from qualified applicants interested in working for a period of six months on a full-time basis, home-based, in one of the four roles described below. Candidates are currently enrolled in a university or postgraduate study or have been graduated in the previous two years.

Under the supervision of the Senior Specialist ,Division for Peace, the trainee will support the design and development of learning events (face-to-face and/or online) and/or methodological solutions, digital solutions, guides, and templates.

In collaboration with the supervisor, the trainee will develop a plan with tasks and learning objectives for the traineeship. The traineeship is intended to allow trainees to develop specific skills and competencies.

THIS PLAN WILL INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING MAIN TASKS, DEPENDING ON THE SPECIFIC ROLE OF THE TRAINEE:

Role 1: Face-to-Face training

  • Support with the design, development and delivery of face-to-face and online learning events;
  • Support with identifying, developing, and testing innovative learning solutions;
  • Support with the development of guides and templates for the implementation of learning solutions;
  • Support with the design and development of a standard face-to-face training-of-trainers curriculum;
  • Support with the design, development and piloting of a certification system to certify trainers;
  • Support with the design and management of an online community for certified trainers;
  • Support learning and development of UNITAR staff.

Role 2: Digital solutions

  • Support with the design, development and delivery or learning events and courses;
  • Support with identifying, developing, and testing innovative digital solutions;
  • Support with the development of guides and templates that facilitate the implementation of digital solutions;
  • Support with the development of guides and templates for the implementation of digital learning solutions;
  • Support with building UNITAR’s capacity to design, develop and implement virtual reality training.
  • Support learning and development of UNITAR staff.

Role 3: Learning & Development

  • Support with the design, development and delivery or learning events and courses;
  • Support with identifying, developing, and testing innovative digital solutions;
  • Support with the development of guides and templates for the implementation of learning solutions;
  • Support with building UNITAR’s capacity to design and develop video-based training;
  • Support with building UNITAR’s capacity on knowledge management, including online learning communities;
  • Support with development and implementation of a knowledge management system and onboarding platform for the Division;
  • Support with the management of the Learning Management Systems;
  • Support with the implementation of an Applicant Tracking System.

Role 4: eLearning and Moodle

  • Support with building UNITAR’s capacity to design and develop eLearning courses;
  • Support with the design, development and management of eLearning courses;
  • Support with identifying, developing, and testing innovative learning solutions related to eLearning;
  • Support with the development of guides and templates for the implementation of eLearning solutions;
  • Support with the management of the Learning Management Systems;
  • Support learning and development of UNITAR staff.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES

By the end of the traineeship, the incumbent will be able to:

  • Explain, design, and develop various toolkits to aid in the implementation of Learning Solutions
  • Use the digital space to design Learning Events and courses while exploring innovative digital solutions
  • Identify and use appropriate vocabulary related to Learning Solutions as well as UN terminology.
  • Apply time management skills in order to respect tight deadlines.
Minimum requirements

The applicant is currently enrolled in a graduate or postgraduate study, or has obtained their diploma in the previous two years, in one of the following areas:

  • Educational sciences
  • Behavioural sciences
  • Human Resources

The ideal candidate has a strong interest in innovation, learning and training, and some experience related to the tasks described under the four different roles.

Skills required

The candidate understands learning processes and has some experience with the design and development of face-to-face and/or online learning events, methodologies and tools.

The candidate has organizational skills, shows initiative and dedication, demonstrates independence at work, and gives attention to detail. He or she is a self-starter, out of the box thinker, and solution oriented. In addition, good communication skills (both written and oral) are essential to be able to work with various stakeholders from different cultural and professional backgrounds. Motivation for continuous learning is essential.

Languages

Proficiency in English AND French is essential; Spanish or another official UN language will be considered an asset.

Remarks

Trainees for this position at UNITAR will be home-based. Trainees are not staff members and shall not represent the Institute in any official capacity.
