Winners Awarded for Youth Leadership Camp for Climate Change 2017

23 May 2017, Medan, Indonesia - The winning participants of the Youth Leadership Camp for Climate Change (YLCCC) 2017 were awarded with the “Tribal Camp Award” and the “Team of the Year Award”. The YLCCC initiative – organized by UN CC:Learn, UNESCO Office, Jakarta, The Climate Reality project Indonesia, and Youth for Climate Change Indonesia, with the support from the Office of the President of Indonesia’s Special Envoy for Climate Change – aimed at empowering 150 Indonesian students to take action on climate change through a series of camp-style trainings followed by implementation of group projects, particularly in the areas of communication and awareness-raising.

Based on the post camp activities, the leaders of teams with the most impressive and impactful projects, in the three different categories of 1) videos, 2) e-posters and 3) peer-education forums, were then invited to Medan, Indonesia, for the YLCCC 2017 Award Ceremony. They were awarded the “Team of the Year Award”.

This award was then followed by the “Tribal Camp Award”, in which three outstanding participants for the entire initiative were recognized. The three winners will be sponsored to attend further training on climate change – the Tribal Climate Camp (TCC) that will be hosted near Seattle, Washington (USA) from 30 July to 4 August 2017. At the TCC, the winning participants from Indonesia would interact and share experiences with other participants to build a knowledge base in climate science and adaptation in the context of tribal and indigenous programming. They will then disseminate the knowledge acquired with the other fellow YLCCC students, and beyond.

Congratulations to the Winners, and good luck to the participants attending the Tribal Climate Camp!
