UNITAR programmes working towards Advancing Environmental Sustainability and Green Development

As countries gear up for the Paris Climate Change Conference  (COP 21), which will take place from 30 November to 11 December 2015, in Paris, France, UNITAR offers unique solutions based on its experience assessing learning needs, designing tailored learning approaches, and using the latest in instructional design techniques to build capacities to overcome environmental challenges and to promote low carbon growth .

In order to advance the objective of Advancing Environmental Sustainability and Green Development, UNITAR works with countries, organizations and UN partners to develop systematic and results-oriented learning strategies and plans. The fourth session of the International Conference on Chemicals Management (ICCM4) will take place in Geneva from 28 September to 2 October 2015. "The Forest Dancers" and "Padem Village" are the new readers that will be used by teachers and students in primary school nationally in Uganda. They have been developped with support from UN:CCLearn and provide an introduction to Climate Change through storytelling.

Nikhil Seth

New incoming Executive Director meets UNITAR Staff

Incoming Executive Director, Nikhil Seth, visited UNITAR offices in Geneva on August 12 to meet the staff for the first time. Mr. Seth is currently the Director of the Division for Sustainable Development, Department of Economic and Social Affairs in the United Nations Headquarters in New York, and was appointed to become the next Executive Director of UNITAR as of 1 October 2015. In a brief stand-up meeting, he greeted all staff and shared his vision of UNITAR. We all look forward to welcoming him soon!

Green Economy Course Now Available in French

Open to a large public, the course aims at improving participants' knowledge in the different concepts and facets of the Green Economy as well as highlighting specific challenges in key sectors at a national level. It is now available in French and you can register until 1 September 2015.

Together with the UN Development Group (UNDG) and the UN System Staff College, Unitar produced a national package that reflects the universal nature of the Post-2015 agenda and can be used by all UN Member States in their efforts to inform the key stakeholders about the content and the implications of the Post-2015 agenda.

Renewed UNCC:Learn Website Launched

The One UN Climate Change Learning Partnership (UN CC:Learn), whose Secretariat is provided by UNITAR, launches a new version of its online knowledge sharing platform, now available in English, French and Spanish. The up-graded website includes a revised layout and new features that facilitate navigation and link with the social media. A new section providing access to climate change resources under five thematic areas – science, education, health, adaptation, and REDD+ – has also been created.

Nuclear Disarmament Training in Hiroshima

UNITAR Hiroshima office developed a training programme focused on South-East Asia. It has been delivered in collaboration with United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR), United Nations Regional Center for Peace and Disarmament in Asia and the Pacific (UNRCPD) and the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI). Thanks to these partnerships and success of this year's programme, it will be continued on an annual basis.
