Introduction to a Green Economy: Concepts and Applications

The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) is pleased to annonce the new edition of the e-learning course "Introduction to a Green Economy: Concepts and Applications", taking place 20 April – 12 June 2015.

The course is delivered within the framework of the Partnership for Action on Green Economy (PAGE), a joint initiative by UNEP, ILO, UNIDO, UNDP and UNITAR, which aims to provide comprehensive assistance to countries seeking to develop and implement inclusive green economy strategies.

The course has been certified by the ECB Check international standard on e-learning education.

Learning Objectives and Contents

The course aims to provide interested stakeholders from government, business, civil society and academia with an introduction to the green economy concept.

Participants in the course will learn about different facets of the green economy, as well as global, national and sector-specific challenges and opportunities to advance low-carbon, resource efficient and socially inclusive development. Additionally, participants will begin to acquire basic skills for applying the green economy concept in an economic, policy-making and personal context.

After completion of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Define the concept of a green economy and explain its value
  • Distinguish relevant  planning processes in support of a green transformation
  • Identify enabling conditions for greening national economies
  • Discuss principal challenges and opportunities to advance a green economy
  • Recognize the range of international and regional green initiatives and support services to foster green development
  • Apply the green economy concept to a real world economic, policy and/or personal context

Registration

Registeration for the course is open until 31 March 2015 at UNITAR's Online Events Section.
