12 July 2019, New York, NY, USA- United Nations Institute for Training and Research New York Office (UNITAR NYO) launched UNITAR’s E-Learning Course entitled Achieving Peace, Preventive Diplomacy, Multilateral Negotiation and Mediation. “A Road to a Call for Peace” with the participation of the African Union to the United Nations (UN), the European Union Delegation to the UN, Permanent Mission of Ireland to the UN, and the Permanent Mission of Norway to the UN. UNITAR introduced the new e-learning tool to members states and diplomats on preventive diplomacy, Multilateral Negotiations, and Mediation, case by case studies on several conflicts’ resolutions and the United Nations Actors including the Secretary-General insight on Preventive Diplomacy.

The launch took place in the United Nations Headquarters, conference room 7. The session started with welcoming remarks of H.E. Mr. Marco Suazo, Head of the UNITAR New York Office. Mr. Suazo provided an overview of the E-learning Course. The remarks were followed by opening statements of other honorable officials of the delegations: H.E. Ms. Mona Juul, Permanent Representative of Norway to the U.N, H.E. Ms. Fatima Mohammed, Permanent Observer of the African Union to the U.N, H.E. Mr. Brian Flynn, Deputy Permanent Representative of Ireland to the U.N., H.E. Mr. Luis Bermudez, Deputy Permanent Representative of Uruguay to the U.N, Mr. Serge Christiane, Charge d'Affaires, EU Delegation to the UN and Ms. Priscilla Hayner Member of the UN Standby Team of Senior Mediation Advisers. Each of the officials provided statements that referred to the importance of peace and mediation.

Following the statements of the officials, Mr. Marco Suazo continued by providing a deeper foresight about the course. He stressed the diverse contexts that underlie the foundation for multilateral negotiations on the United Nations level. He also explained how the course will cover case studies and in-depth interpretations of the UN regulations. Mr. Suazo performed a tool demonstration of how to navigate the E-Learning Course to facilitate the framework of the presentation to the guests. During the course display, Mr. Suazo explained that the programme will offer students exclusive access to the interviews on preventive diplomacy and multilateral negotiations and will examine a wide compilation of research and studies on the topics of peacebuilding and peacekeeping process.
